Application of musculoskeletal ultrasound in gouty arthritis

چکیده
Gout is a representative inflammatory arthritis with an increasing incidence in recent years. may be accompanied by chronic course which sodium urate crystals are continuously deposited to form gout nodules if proper uric acid management not performed after acute symptom onset. In the past, invasive method was applied diagnose gout, but development of various imaging modalities has prompted attempts non-invasive method. Among these, ultrasound examination patient-friendly examination, relatively convenient perform outpatient setting, and can used for treatment evaluation. Therefore, this thesis, findings investigated actual treatment.

Phenylbutazone ("Butazolidin") is an effective therapeutic agent in acute gouty arthritis (Kuzell and co-workers, 1952, 1954; Kidd, Boyce, and Freyberg, 1952, 1953; Stephens, Yeoman, Holbrook, Hill, and Goodin, 1952; Steinbrocker, Berkowitz, Ehrlich, Elkind, and Carp, 1952; Engleman, Krupp, Forsham, Griffin, Johnson, Green, and Goldfien, 1953). It is a synthetic pyrazol derivative, with the che...
متن کاملA Novel Application of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging
Ultrasound is an attractive modality for imaging muscle and tendon motion during dynamic tasks and can provide a complementary methodological approach for biomechanical studies in a clinical or laboratory setting. Towards this goal, methods for quantification of muscle kinematics from ultrasound imagery are being developed based on image processing. The temporal resolution of these methods is t...
متن کاملRole of musculoskeletal ultrasound in juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Over the past decade, musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK-US) has been described by many rheumatologists as the ‘stethoscope’ of the joint. Unlike conventional radiography, an established imaging technique for identifying progressive joint damage, US is sensitive to soft tissue lesions and can detect early erosive bone lesions [1,2]. The development of higher frequency probes (12–18 MHz) and portab...
متن کاملJoint and tendon subclinical involvement suggestive of gouty arthritis in asymptomatic hyperuricemia: an ultrasound controlled study
INTRODUCTION In this study, we aimed to investigate ultrasonographic (US) changes suggestive of gouty arthritis in the hyaline cartilage, joints and tendons from asymptomatic individuals with hyperuricemia. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional, controlled study including US examinations of the knees and first metatarsal-phalangeal joints (first MTPJs), as well as of the tendons and enthesis...
متن کاملThe Application of Ultrasound Imaging in the Musculoskeletal Modeling Process
Introduction The size of muscles vary, and this has been shown to influence the strength of a muscle. Hill muscle models are commonly used in musculoskeletal modeling to predict muscle forces [1]. The majority of muscle models are derived from Hill’s original equations and use the physiological cross-sectional area (PCSA). However there are no lowcost, fast methods of determining the PCSA of a ...
